WARSAW — Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17, Hither & Yon will host a large home goods sale at Lakeland Christian Academy, 1093 S 250E, Winona Lake, including repurposed furniture and other home furnishings like pillows, lamps, wall art and craft items. All proceeds will go to support education for children in Zambia — for whom a high school graduation can be life-altering.
Hither & Yon, originally opened as a home décor store in May, 2013. It was a collaboration of people and businesses in the community and operated for more than a year with volunteers and donations. The charity has since closed the store to focus efforts on hosting an annual event sale in October.
“We are so excited to bring this two-day event to Lakeland,” Hither & Yon Manager, Laurie Victa, said. “This will be a great opportunity for the community to see everything we have to offer at one time instead of having to continually stop in the store. Our volunteers have been working tirelessly to be able to offer some really beautiful items.”
Through a partnership with a group of churches in rural Zambia, Hither & Yon has established an education project and identified students who are at risk for dropping out of school due to financial hardship.
“At this point, we have committed to supporting a group of children through high school, which will empower them and offer a whole new world of opportunity,” Victa said. “All of the proceeds from this sale will be used to support those children.”
While people can donate to the cause, the goal is to offer something in return.
“This is a real opportunity to put your money to work,” Victa said. “Shopping the sale allows you to purchase with a purpose and bring home something unique at the same time.”
