John E. Schmidt
John Eugene Schmidt, 75 residing in Tyner, Indiana went home at 7:55 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2015.
John was born on Dec. 7, 1939 in Leiters Ford, Ind., to Frank and Marie (Dillenberg) Schmidt.
John married Judy Ibs on September 30, 1961. John and Judy celebrated 54 years of marriage. John was a hard worker all his life. He was a dairy farmer and member of the Marshall County Dairy Association. John was one of the original members of the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Department that started in 1976. He was known for driving engine/pumper number one and was awarded Fireman of the year in 1995. Raising a family, farming, and volunteering were his life.
John is survived by his loving wife, Judy (Ibs) Schmidt; his wonderful children, Helen Schmidt, Lisa Daughtery, John (Loretta) Schmidt, Rita (Fred) Lemert, James (April) Schmidt, Sharon Schmidt and Gerrie Schmidt; son-in-law, Wayne Pete; his adorable grandchildren, JT, Alyssa, Brittany, Evan, Abby, Katie, Elizabeth and Haley; step-grandchildren, Kayla, Danielle, and Hannah; brothers and sisters, Margaret Stukenborg, Joe Schmidt, Tom (Rhea) Schmidt, Rose Schmidt, Cathy Eley (Frank Foster); sister-in-laws, Betty (Richard) Jordan, Regina Martz, Diane Schmidt, Carol Schmidt and Anita Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in passing by his daughter, Karen (Schmidt) Pete; his parents, Frank and Marie Schmidt; his brothers, Paul Schmidt, Jim Schmidt, Bill Schmidt and Rick Schmidt; brother-in-law, Bernard Stukenborg and sister-in-law, Pat Schmidt.
The Van Gilder Funeral Home is caring for the Schmidt family. A Memorial service in honor of John will be held at the Van Gilder Funeral Homeat 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, with Rev. Rick Davenport officiating.
A time of visiting with the Schmidt family will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth.
