FORT WAYNE — Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is sponsoring its seventh annual augmentative/alternative communication theatre day camp for individuals ages 6–23 who use AAC for communicating.

Children and young people who use AAC devices are invited to campus each year over fall break for socialization and to put on a short play. This year the AAC “Poss-abilities” Theatre Camp will take place Oct. 9–11.

“This theatre camp is a way to increase public awareness of people who use AAC to communicate,” said Sharon Mankey, director of the Communications Sciences and Disorders Clinic at IPFW.

The Poss-Abilities Theatre Camp, which is free to all participants, will feature a variety of activities for the camper and parent(s)/guardian(s)/caregiver(s). On the final day, camp participants will take part in the public performance of a short play, followed by light refreshments.

The group will present the play “Imogene’s Antlers” as part of the camp at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, in Neff Hall, Room 101 on the IPFW campus.

The play is free and open to the public. A reception will take place following the play. Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the theatre camp and play.
