Halloween At WCPL

WARSAW — Halloween has always been my favorite time of the year. Whether it is the crispness in the air, the crunching leaves beneath your feet, or to be truthful … the candy!
I remember trick-or-treating in my hometown of Silver Lake, and when I grew too old, I would take my nieces and nephews for years afterward. My dad would always “inspect” our haul, somehow finding some of the treats only fit for him. Now everyone is grown up and I miss the activities that came along with Halloween.
Do you remember the boxed costumes with plastic faces? And the tongue slots where you were constantly pushing your tongue through while you walked around? These days you don’t find many costumes like. Now we have Disney Store costumes and the latest Superhero or movie character. Although there are still plenty of costumes you can purchase, have you given much thought to homemade costumes?
If you need some help on coming up with some cute homemade costume ideas, stop at your Warsaw Community Public Library and check out the many books we have on costume design. “The Halloween Costume Book,” by Katherine Thornton; or the “Family Fun Halloween Book,” are just two books in our vast collection that will assist you in creating a fun Halloween costume, for kids and adults alike.
Maybe a Halloween party is in the plans? Check out “Halloween Howls,” background music CD, “Halloween Sweets and Treats,” by Ruth Owen, or “Halloween Pumpkins and Parties,” for some great ideas for your get together. Use our books for decorating ideas, spooky finger foods, and other awesome ideas for your party. Don’t forget to bob for apples!
And don’t forget about the Warsaw Spooktacular coming up from 5:30-9 p.m. Oct. 23, in downtown Warsaw. The library will be handing out candy 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the building in the various offices.
Throughout October, the circulation department will also be displaying Halloween and other scary movies for all ages, and music to put you in the seasonal mood.
Stop in and make your Halloween a memorable event for all ages.
