Roller Dolls End On High Note
WARSAW – In its final bout of the season, the Lake City Roller Dolls made it a memorable one with a 232-125 win against visiting Kokomo City of Fists Saturday evening at The Doll House.
An evening titled ‘Fight Like A Girl II’, the Dolls used superior performances from MVP jammer Block N’ Deck Her as well as the prowess of MVP blocker Flew The Coop and her ‘Warsaw Wall’ teammates to keep Kokomo from ever leading in the bout.
The evening, which surrounded the efforts of raising funds to support local women fighting breast cancer, had money raised donated to the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund. The auction alone after the bout raised over $750, combined with the proceeds from gate receipts, outdid the 2014 inaugural total donated.
The halftime entertainment was a highlight showcase from the K-County Junior Roller Derby.
The Lake City Roller Dolls finish its competition season 5-3 overall and saw the season end with the retirement announcement of coaches Mark and Bobbie Tevis. Both will be stepping away to help the K-County Juniors full-time.
“We may not be actively in roller derby any longer, but roller derby will always be in our blood and a huge part of our lives together,” Bobbie Tevis said. “(The Dolls) went above and beyond what I ever expected of them.”
