CR 29 And US 6 Overpass Slated For 2016
SYRACUSE — Indiana Department of Transportation and the Elkhart County Highway Department have been in collaboration on upcoming safety measures regarding US 6.
After an unusually high number of accidents at the intersection of US 6 and CR 29, north of Syracuse, INDOT researched possible methods of alleviation including a roundabout and a four-way stop to replace the current two-way stop. The group settled on an overpass that has come in at an estimated $2.3 million cost.
The project manager is listed as Hoff Russell, but Media Relations Director Nichole Thomas was able to shed light on the project. Thomas noted all the information she provided on the overpass is also available on INDOT’s government website. The project was officially let Oct. 7, and the accepted bid came from Superior Construction Company of Gary, in the amount of $2.3 million.
Thomas noted the group will hold a pre-construction conference including INDOT and Superior Construction Company representatives. Following that meeting, there is a 30-day window for construction work to begin, although it is not expected these events will occur until some time in 2016.
