Elkhart County HOF To Honor 2015 Inductees
ELKHART – An outstanding collection of former high school coaches and athletes will be inducted into the Elkhart County Sports Hall of Fame Nov. 14.
The group of 22 individuals will be honored at the Matterhorn Restaurant in Elkhart.
The distinguished group includes former NorthWood High School basketball coaches Steve Neff and Dan Gunn, as well as former Goshen High School boys basketball coach Mike Sorrell.
Also to be honored are three of the most successful coaches in county history in Ted Noffsinger, David Whittaker and Dave Walker. Noffsinger was the longtime cross country coach at Elkhart Memorial, while Whittaker coached tennis at both Elkhart Central and Elkhart Memorial and Walker had a long run as the softball coach at Elkhart Central.
The 2015 induction class includes:
- Bethany Christian — Seth Kauffman, 2010; Jessica Buller, Bethany Christian, 2004.
- Concord— Heidi Copsey, 1988; Josh Staley, 2000; Alana Burns, 1993
- Elkhart High — Greg Stump, 1969; David Whittaker, 1968; Dave Walker, 1969.
- Nappanee — Ted Noffsinger, 1965; Bob Berger, 1963; Greg Truex, 1964.
- Elkhart Memorial — Allison Sears, 2005.
- Fairfield — Renee Schlabach-Glunt, 2000.
- Goshen — Josh Keister, 2000; Ron Miller, 1963 Mike Sorrell, coach.
- Jimtown — Cary Starnal, 1986.
- Northridge — Kevin Cripe, 1974; Carla Hawkins, 1974; Aimee Gingerich, 2007.
- NorthWood — Dan Gunn, coach.
- Wakarusa — Steve Neff, 1969
Tickets for the event are $25 each and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are available at Concord, Jimtown, NorthWood, Elkhart Memorial and Northridge high schools, as well as offices of the Elkhart Truth and Goshen News and at the Middlebury State Bank.
The program will begin Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 and the awards ceremony at 7:30.
