After Competency Evaluation, Man Gets Higher Bond
WARSAW — Charles Brendon Shepherd, 35, 2575 E. Center St., Warsaw, who had been released on a $2,000 surety bond, is back in jail on the same charge with a higher bond following a court ordered competency evaluation.
He was booked at the county jail Wednesday, Nov. 11, on the charge of battery causing bodily injury to a law enforcement officer, a level 5 felony. He is now being held on $10,000 surety and $250 cash bond.
Court documents state on July 19, Shepherd was arrested on a warrant and was taken by Warsaw Police Officer Allen Danko to Kosciusko Community Hospital for medical clearance before being taken to the county jail. While at the hospital Shepherd became violent and abusive toward hospital staff and the officer. He also began throwing items and grabbed the officer’s fingers on his left hand, twisting them backwards causing pain.
Danko deployed his taser to the chest of Shepherd and was able to remove his fingers from Shepherd’s grip. Shepherd then attempted to grab the officers handgun from the holster. Danko was able to pin Sheherd to the bed and handcuff him.
