Winter Weather Preparedness Week
INDIANA — Gov. Mike Pence has proclaimed Nov. 15-21 as Winter Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana.
The National Weather Service, working with partners — The Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Transportation and Education and The American Red Cross — will provide information on winter weather safety.
The goal of a weather ready nation includes winter weather preparedness. The NWS and its partners want all Hoosiers to be hazard ready. Winter Weather preparedness week reviews winter weather hazards to be prepared for.
The key to a safe winter is understanding a person’s role in preserving your own safety. Knowing winter weather terms and winter weather safety tips can reduce weather related problems. Remember when watches and warnings are issued, individuals need to take action to remain safe from the dangers winter may bring.
The National Weather Service Indianapolis will issue daily public information statements that will contain: emergency kits for preparedness, winter weather travel safety, safety considerations for schools, winter weather outlook and exposure to cold and wind chill, outdoor safety during winter and summarizing winter weather points for the week.
Read the NWS preparedness newsletter for timely information, including a winter outlook, safety tips and more.
Winter weather information will be on NOAA radio broadcasts and on National Weather Service website.
