David L. Bowers
David L. Bowers, 81, of Nappanee, died unexpectedly of natural causes, Friday morning, Nov. 27, at the home of his son in Lebanon, Ohio.
He was born Aug.25, 1934, in Elkhart to Harrison and Freida (Miller) Bowers.
David was a graduate of Nappanee High School and Ashland University. He lived most of his life in Nappanee.
On July 21, 1957, he married Joanne M. Tate in Shreve, Ohio.
David served in the Unites States Army from 1957-59. He was stationed in Germany and was chosen as a Chaplain’s assistant. He retired from Crown International in 1997 as chief financial officer. David was a lifetime member of the First Brethren Church. He was a 50 year member of Gideons International and loved Bible distributions. He had also worked with the Nappanee Chamber of Commerce and served as treasurer. He loved Nappanee and enjoyed spending time at Syracuse Lake and Lake Wawasee.
Surviving is his wife, Joanne; children, Robin Joan Bonnell, Tuscon, Airz., Scott David (Sherrie) Bowers, Lebanon, Ohio; and grandchildren, Kelsey, Cory, David Alexander Bowers, and Anya Bonnell.
Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and for 1 hour prior to the Funeral Service, which will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4 at First Brethren Church. Rev. Tom Schiefer and Rev. Bart Shaw will officiate and burial will be in Union Center Cemetery with Military Graveside Services by Nappanee American Legion.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Brethren Church or Gideons International.
