Busy Roads For Wrestling Squads
Several area wrestling teams were on the road Saturday in various invitationals and super duals.
Triton was very impressive at the South Adams Invite, picking up four team wins. The Trojans defeated Eastbrook 54-24, Bluffton 36-15, South Adams 60-22 and Lafayette Harrison 60-18 before succumbing to Woodlan 49-30.
Malachi Greene continued his stellar start to the season, going 5-0 with three pins. Gage Waddle also posted a 5-0 day, scoring four pins, three taking less than a minute; needing just 19 seconds to finish off his South Adams opponent.
Bryce Swihart, Adonic Salinas, Lee Mullet, Nick Harker and Ryan Horne all were 4-1 overall for the day at South Adams. Mullet pulled off the fastest pin for the Trojans in just nine seconds against his Harrison foe. Swihart had a pin in 10 seconds against South Adams in a team dual that saw 11 of 14 matches decided by pins, Triton scoring eight of them – six in less than 45 seconds.
Triton moves to 9-3 overall and will work again next Saturday at the Delta Duals.
Wawasee earned two wins at the LaPorte Super Duals.
The Warriors defeated Hammond and Knox head-to-head and fell to Lafayette Jeff, LaPorte and Merrillville.
Tristen Ponsler had a big day, running undefeated at 5-0. Four Warriors went 4-1 in Braxton Alexander, Ronny Shortt, Zac McKee and Jeremiah Dilley. The Warriors were without the services of Stephen Possell, who was out taking the SATs.
“Our team is improving one day at a time right now,” stated Wawasee head coach Frank Bumgardner, whose team moves to 7-7 overall. “We are just looking to make adjustments everyday.”
Wawasee will compete Thursday at home in a Northern Lakes Conference dual against Goshen.
