NORTH WEBSTER — Although the North Webster Community Public Library will be closed Dec. 24-27 for the Christmas holiday, there is still plenty going on next week. The Christmas week starts off with Writer’s Corner at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, when the group shares compositions. It will be a free write with everyone writing whatever they want. It should be an interesting time with lots of variety. It doesn’t matter if you are a novice or published author, Writer’s Corner is open to everyone who enjoys writing.
Read, Eat And Discuss Book Club also meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, to discuss “1000 White Women: The Journals of Mary Dodd” by Jim Fergus. This is an 1875 fictional account of a colorful assembly of pioneer women who intermarry among the Cheyenne Indians. If you haven’t picked up your copy at the library yet, there is still time to get the book read and join the discussion. R.E.A.D. Book Club meets the third Monday each month and reads a variety of books throughout the year. Joining a book club is a good way to explore quality literature and different genres and authors.
If you are serious about genealogy, the Glean Team invites you to join them show and tell at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, when they will be sharing bits of their family histories through heirlooms and keepsakes. This is a group of family historians who meets three Wednesdays each month to help and encourage each other on their genealogy projects and explore and share resources. Occasionally the group takes field trips to genealogy libraries, museums, cemeteries, and other places of historical interest. The group is led by the library’s Local History and Genealogy Center Director Beth Smith.
There are activities planned for the kids next week as well with crafts and stories at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, and Family Movie Time at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23. The family movie is an animated comedy adventure about the head sheep who takes a day off and gets more action than he bargained for. It’s rated PG and runs 85 minutes. Bring the kids and beverages to drink and help yourselves to the free popcorn while watching a funny movie on the big screen.
Mark your calendars for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, for the Mark’s Ark Live Animal Show. Expert animal handler Mark Kohlhorst will bring his animal friends for a “lively” hands-on learning experience about animals.
While the library is closed over the holidays, you can still access many library resources and services by visiting our website at www.nweb.lib.in.us.
