Faith, Family, Plenty Of Music At McEntire Concert
WARSAW — The auditorium at Lakeview Middle School was filled Saturday evening, Dec. 12, as concertgoers gathered to hear Susie McEntire perform.
This was McEntire’s third time performing in Warsaw and her second Christmas concert here.
Like last year, the concert was paired with a Toys for Tots drive, with more than a dozen large collection boxes filled to the top with new, unwrapped toys. The audience learned that there are more than 300 local families signed up this year to receive toys through Toys for Tots and more than 650 local children.
McEntire kicked off her performance with some worship songs, followed by several holiday favorites and some country tunes. In between songs, she told about her life, her faith and her family. Husband, Mark Eaton, joined her on stage with his guitar and vocals, which included a solo performance of “Silent Night” in its original German.
Several special guests joined McEntire on stage, including the children’s choir from Warsaw Christian School. Santa and Mrs. Claus also made an appearance and presented McEntire and Eaton with a special gift for their anniversary, which was the night of the concert. The students in the choir sang, “happy anniversary to you.”
While there were many serious and even sentimental moments, there was also plenty of laughter as McEntire recalled incidents from her childhood and she and Eaton entertained with lighthearted humor. Eaton also took the opportunity to facetiously debut, “Larry Did You Know,” an on-the-spot parody of, “Mary Did You Know,” about a plumber, much to the audience’s amusement.
McEntire and Eaton will also perform at 9 a.m. Sunday morning, Dec. 13, at Leesburg United Methodist Church.
