PIERCETON — Multiple new ordinances were passed at the Monday, Dec. 14, Pierceton Town Council meeting, one of which will change the way residents handle their pets, while the other necessitates certain types of totes for garbage.

The first ordinance repeals all prior ordinances stating dogs or cats needed to be licensed and replaces them with a modification. Now, as dogs or cats are picked up by animal control officers, fees will be given to owners. The first fee is $5, the second is $10 and the third and any subsequent fees will be $15. The ordinance was read for the first time and passed at last night’s meeting.

The second ordinance to pass at the meeting changes how garbage will be handled in the town. Residents will receive a 96-gallon tote to use throughout the year. All totes must be placed on the town right-of-way and must be moved back to their residence within 24 hours of pickup. This ordinance was also first read last night and passed.

• Priority One video surveillance was granted permission to install video surveillance in the police station for $2,620.
• Alicia Elder was appointed EMS captain in Pierceton.
• A new CPR class was announced for 2016, although dates are not set.
