WARSAW – The Warsaw freshman boys basketball team stood tall as champions of its own tournament Saturday.

The Tigers beat LaPorte 42-26 in the morning game. Nolan Groninger paced the Tigers with 15 points and Jaylen Reese scored 11 points. Trenton Sands chipped in eight points for Warsaw.

In the championship game for Fort Wayne Northrop, Warsaw doubled up the Bruins 56-28. Groninger again led the home squad with 15 points while Sands and Tyler Metzinger each finished with 10 points.

The Tigers move to 8-1 after the tournament wins and will next play Jan. 7 in hosting Northridge.
