USW Christmas Meals Ready To Go
WARSAW — This Christmas, many families in the local area will go without a holiday meal.
The United Steel Workers Local 809 would like to remedy this. The Union has packed 238 grocery bags full of everything needed to create a traditional Christmas meal. The bags are available at the Union Hall, 420 Little League Drive, Warsaw, from 9 a.m. to noon today, Thursday, Dec. 24.
Each meal includes a canned ham, a 10-pound bag of potatoes, two cans of green beans, two boxes of stuffing, two gravy packets and two boxes of pudding. Owen’s Market, Warsaw, contributed a portion of the donations while USW members furnished the rest out-of-pocket.
USW members have been at work since 6 a.m., making sure the bags are ready. Already, cars are lined up at the door and down the street as families wait patiently. There are no signups ahead of time and families are on the honor system; no proof of need is required.
The USW Union Hall is west of town, off of Center Street, near the VFW building.
