Hollis D. Steele
Hollis D. Steele, 87, Warsaw and formerly of Goshen, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
He was born June 5, 1928, in Middlebury to John and Treva (Shrock) Steele.
On Jan. 9, 1949, he married Grace Clark. She preceded him in death Feb. 27, 2015.
Survivors include a son, Douglas (Coleen) Steele Wakarusa; a daughter, Kim (Clarence) VanFleeren New Paris; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joan (George) Swihart Austin, Colo.
Prior to his marriage, he went to Poland on a cattle boat after WWII with Heifer Project.
Hollis was an independent truck driver before his retirement. He enjoyed raising and training horses, a love which he shared with his family. With his wife, Grace, he gave horse-drawn hayrides at Eby Pines and drove horse-drawn trams at the Elkhart County fairgrounds.
According to his wishes, cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.
A graveside memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Rock Run Cemetery, Goshen.
