WCS To Host Community Martin Luther King Celebration
WARSAW — Members of the Committee to Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are excited to host the community celebration to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center, on the campus of Grace College. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and box lunches will be available free of charge for the first 500 in attendance.
Charles Person, Atlanta, Ga., will be the featured guest speaker for the event. Person is one of three living Civil Rights pioneers who participated in the original Freedom Rides to integrate interstate bus travel. His heroic part in United States Civil Rights history influenced the policies and actions of the Kennedy administration and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year’s event is a once in a life-time opportunity to learn and interact with a Civil Rights pioneer.
Over 150 students from Kosciusko County will perform in different parts of the celebration. The annual Dr. MLK Jr. Scholarships will also be presented during the event. The scholarships will be awarded to current senior students who demonstrate scholastic excellence and who encompasses the heart of Dr. King through acts of community service and by enriching the lives of others.
