Herman A. ‘Herm’ Ritenour
Herman A. ‘Herm’ Ritenour, 81, Warsaw, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.
He was born on May 12, 1934, in Wabash County, to Lester and Lora (Hoover) Ritenour. He grew up on the home farm and was a 1952 graduate of Chester Township High School, Wabash County. He married Bonnie W. Wiley, on May 16, 1954, in Whitley County. He moved to Warsaw from North Manchester in 1964.
He spent a few years at different jobs – including driving truck at Farm Bureau Elevator, Peabody School Furniture factory and hauling milk; Zimmer for 36 years retiring from its distribution department; after retirement he continued working part time. He had an independent delivery service for seven years taking emergency items to hospitals and airports, delivered rental trucks and used cars covering most of Indiana.
Herman was a member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church where he served as past chairman, was on the board of trustees, sang in the choir for a number of years, and was an usher for several years; was an IU and Notre Dame fan and a die-hard Cubs fan; delivered blood for Red Cross and delivered Meals on Wheels; enjoyed being a part of a Euchre Club, square dancing and traveling. Herm also enjoyed making sawdust in the woodshop where he made toys for grandsons and underprivileged kids. His favorite thing was spending time with his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife: Bonnie W. Ritenour, Warsaw; son: Rod (Anne) Ritenour, North Manchester; five grandchildren: Anthony (Crystal) Ritenour, Louisville, Ky.; Michael Ritenour, Wabash; Troy (Rhonda) Custer, North Manchester; Todd (Heather) Custer, North Manchester; Angela Custer, North Manchester; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents: Lester and Lora Ritenour, in 1958, two sisters: Esther Wine; Edna White; and one brother: Cecil Ritenour.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Titus Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Steve Ailes, Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
