Turnovers Key In Whitko Loss
WABASH – Four turnovers were the biggest number on the final stat sheet Friday night for the Whitko football team.
The Wildcats lost the ball twice on fumbles and a pair of times on interceptions in a 27-21 Three Rivers Conference loss at Northfield.
The winning Norsemen, who improve to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in league play, had no turnovers in the TRC contest.
The game was tied at 14-14 at halftime before Northfield took the lead for good with a pair of scores in the third quarter to take a 27-14 lead.
Whitko rushed for 309 yards on just 39 carries in the setback.
Devin Gerding led the way for the Wildcats with 122 yards rushing on just nine attempts. He scored on runs of 36 and seven yards. Tanner Hughes had 68 yards on 15 carries.
Whitko quarterback Alex Stoddard scored on a one-yard run. He finished the game 6-17 passing for 71 yards with two interceptions.
Standout Andy Roser led the way for Northfield. The senior tailback ran for 195 yards on 33 carries for the hosts. Roser scored on runs of three and 20 yards for the winners.
Whitko drops to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in TRC action.
Whitko hosts North Miami in a conference game next Friday night in South Whitley.
