Park Foundation Convened For Committee Updates
SYRACUSE – Syracuse-Wawasee Park Foundation board members assembled at Syracuse Community Center Monday evening, Jan. 25, to hear updates from the Syracuse-Wawasee Trail Committee and the parks department during a brief meeting.
Erick Leffler, trail committee chair, reported 2015 fundraising efforts were a success and they are considering selling key chains, T-shirts and other items at the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce for continued public support. Leffler also announced two spring events. Saturday, April 16, is slated for trail maintenance. Community volunteers will work together throughout the day for spring clean-up. The following week, Saturday, April 23, the trail committee will again host the Tails and Trails dog walk Saturday, April 23.
Parks Superintendent Chad Jonsson advised the board clean-up and development will continue at Laudeman Park in the coming year. Small projects at Lakeside Park are among items on the five-year master plan for the parks and recreation board. The approved master plan has yet to be returned to the board.
In new business the agenda included election of 2016 officers. In the absence of members, Dick Pelletier moved to postpone election of officers to a later date. All members were in agreement to revisit nominees. The board would like time to determine if there is an interest in new membership.
Before adjourning, Leffler was added as a signatory for the foundation.
