Warriors Still Can’t Find Touch
Wawasee’s scoring woes continued on the hardcourt again Saturday night, losing to Lakeland 63-49 Saturday night in boys basketball in Syracuse.
Lakeland had four scorers in double figures, led by Cameron Bontrager’s 17 points and Cole Hart’s 16 points. Britain Isaacs registered 12 points and Jeff Patrick came through with 10 points for the Lakers.
Lakeland used nine of Bontrager’s points in the first quarter to jump out to a 22-11 lead, and two more Bontrager threes in the second quarter helped the Lakers take a 17-point bulge into the half.
The Warriors had Trevon Coleman lead the way with 15 points and Tyler Smith score 12 points. Jayce Boatwright finished his night with 11 points.
Lakeland, winners of five of its last six games, improves to 6-10 on the season and play again Thursday night at Churubusco. Wawasee falls to 2-11 overall and will jump back into Northern Lakes Conference play Thursday at Northridge.
The Wawasee JV moved to 12-3 overall with a 42-25 win against Lakeland.
Lady Warriors Split At NLC
The Wawasee freshmen team ended on a high note at the freshman NLC girls basketball tournament.
Wawasee lost to Northridge, 40-36, in its first game but rallied to beat Warsaw, 47-35, in its consolation matchup.
Sara Pritchard led Wawasee in the Ridge game with 14 points, 10 coming in the second half as Wawasee tried to rally from a 22-13 halftime deficit. Sierra Miller led the Lady Raiders with 12 points.
In the Warsaw game, Morgan Adkins paced Wawasee with 16 points and Pritchard chimed in with 11 more points. Halle Shipp led Warsaw with 11 points and Madelyn Smith and Abby Doberstein each had eight points.
