Kosciusko Celebrates Indiana’s ‘Bison-tennial’
WARSAW — The Bison-tennial Public Art Project is coming to Kosciusko County as part of Indiana’s Bicentennial Celebration in 2016. Kosciusko County Community Foundation will be the project lead for the public art project, officially endorsed by the Indiana Bicentennial Commission.
The Bison-tennial Public Art Project is facilitated by Indiana Association of United Ways, whose goal is to have at least one — if not a herd — of bison on display in each of Indiana’s 92 counties. The bison will be making appearances along the Bicentennial Torch Relay route, which goes through Kosciusko County on Sept. 29, 2016.
To date, art committees in Warsaw and Winona Lake have committed to the Bison-tennial Public Art Project. Both communities will receive a 5×8 foot white fiberglass bison. The bison will be delivered in early March ready to be decorated as determined by the art committee in the community in which it will be displayed. Once decorated, the bison will go on display by Memorial Day 2016. The cost of the bison to the community is $1,500, which includes delivery charges.
Any community in Kosciusko County interested in acquiring a bison must make their commitment to participate by February 10, 2016. Interested communities should contact Suzie Light, Executive Director of the Kosciusko County Community Foundation at (574) 267-1901 or by email [email protected].
