SYRACUSE — Three Wawasee High School athletes signed a National Letter of Intent this week to continue their playing careers. Jeffrey Moore signed with Holy Cross for golf on Tuesday morning while Sarah Lancaster and Stephen Possell signed Wednesday morning for soccer at Bethel College and football at the University of Indianapolis, respectively.

Lancaster has started varsity the past four years for coach Doug Henisch’s program and has been a captain the past two. She was named the team’s Freshman of the Year in 2013 and received Honorable Mention All-NLC nods in both 2014 and 2015. She made all-star teams in both 2014 and 2015 and has recorded eight goals over the past two seasons.

“I have always wanted to play soccer at the collegiate level” stated Lancaster. “When visiting Bethel I liked the atmosphere and having family ties there made it feel right. I believe this is the right fir for me.”

Lancaster has also participated in basketball and has been a four year runner for the track team.

Bethel is an NAIA program that competes in the Crossroads League.

Moore has been a three year varsity player for Steve Coverstone’s golf team, winning the team’s MVP award last year. He has twice been an All-NLC member and was a regional qualifier in both 2013 and 2014.

“I knew when I stepped on campus and met coach Mannen that Holy Cross is where I would end up,” Moore said. “I love the campus and environment and I’m excited to further my golf career at Holy Cross.”

Moore has also participated in Wawasee’s Building Trades program and was a three-year varsity player for the basketball team. Holy Cross is an NAIA school located in Notre Dame, IN and competes in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Possell started varsity for three years under Josh Ekovich on the gridiron and was a team captain during his senior campaign. He was named the team’s defensive MVP each of the last two seasons, Special Forces Player of the Year (2013 and 2015), All-NLC (2015) and Honorable Mention All-NLC (2014).

During his senior campaign Possell recorded 89 solo tackles, 42 assisted tackles, five sacks, 10 tackles for loss, four pass deflections and two interceptions.

“It has always been a dream of mine to play college football,” Possell stated. “After speaking with the coaches and taking multiple visits I have decided to play at UIndy. I love the winning mentality there, it’s a good fit for me.”

UIndy head coach Bob Bartolomeo dubbed Possell a “Big hitter” after announcing the player’s commitment via twitter early Wednesday morning. The Greyhounds are an NCAA DII program and compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Possell has also wrestled on the varsity level for four years and will throw for the track and field team this spring.
