Groves Earns Win No. 200
FULTON – Triton boys basketball head coach Jason Groves joined another elite class of coaches Saturday, earning win number 200 as the Trojans blew out Caston 80-20.
Groves improves to 200-64 in his eleventh year at Triton, and his .758 win percentage is second only to Mike Hackett’s .785 at Munster among active coaches with at least 200 wins. Hackett, coincidentally, is sitting at 299 wins himself.
Triton made the reality known very quickly against an overmatched Caston squad, blowing out to an 18-4 lead in the first quarter and ripping the Comets to the tune of 31-2 in the second quarter, part of a 36-2 run in the first half. Triton hadn’t scored 80 points since it put up 83 against Bethany Christian in 2013.
Masen Yeo had his shooter’s touch going early, scoring 22 points on 9-12 shooting, also collecting four assists and seven steals in under 18 minutes of game action. Jordan Anderson finished with 19 points and six boards and Zac Pitney chipped in 13 points. Grant Johnson added six points and seven boards.
Brayton Jellison led the Comets (6-12) with nine points, four rebounds and two blocks.
Triton’s JV posted a 50-26 win against Caston, led by 14 points from Beau Hepler and 12 points from Caden Marr. Matt Rans had 11 points for Caston.
Triton, which improves to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference, plays again Friday at home against LaVille.
