UPDATE: Barn Fire On CR 450S
UPDATE — A barn on the property of Dennis Boggs, 735 E 450S, Warsaw, was a total loss, but nearby buildings and the home went unscathed thanks to efforts of firefighters. The fire was Thursday evening, Feb. 25.
“For the amount of fire and close proximity of other buildings, all additional buildings were saved,” said Claypool Fire Chief Bob Haines. “There was another barn 10 feet away and the house,” he said adding winds were from the west sending the flames and heat toward the residence.
Haines stated the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but early indications are the fire was accidental. The large barn was used to repair farm equipment and housed some of that equipment. “He lost a lot of farm equipment,” said Haines; including parts and tools.
The fire department was notified at 6:45 p.m. with mutual aid being requested from Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Department. First firefighters on the scene reported a fully engulfed structure fire. Tanker assistance was requested from Winona Lake, Pierceton and Silver Lake fire departments. Manpower was also requested from the Winona Lake Department.
The American Red Cross – Kosciusko County was contacted to provide a canteen for approximately 50 firefighters on scene.
