Bicentennial Committee Names Top 10 Barns
INDIANA — The Indiana Bicentennial Committee has compiled a list of the top 10 Bicentennial barns in the state.
According to an article on Inside Indiana Business, approximately 200 barns were submitted for what has been dubbed an official Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project.
According to the project’s website, a panel of agriculturalists, preservationists and artists chose the top 10 barns they felt best represented Indiana’s legacy. Criteria included:
- Integrity of the original architecture
- The barn’s history
- Stories surrounding the barn
- The barn’s purpose
- Overall aesthetics of the barn
A description and history of each barn are available here. Though dates and locations have not yet been announced, plans are in the works for a traveling exhibit, which highlight each barn.
Barns selected include the Allhands barn, Henry County; The TC Singleton round barn, Daviess County; the Burcham barn, Porter County; the Feightner barn, Noble County; the Knigga barn, Ohio County; the Nedelkoff barn, Floyd County; the Sheets barn, Howard County; the Smoker barn, LaPorte County; the Rouch barn, St. Joseph County; and the Wendel barn, Franklin County.
