Students To Participate in Showcase
WARSAW — The Warsaw Area Career Center will be hosting a student leadership showcase from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday March 23. “Due to our last snowstorm and school cancellations, our students were unable to attend the Family, Career, Community Leaders of America and ProStart state leadership competition.” said Chef Mark Brag, ProStart advisor. “As you can imagine, they were very disappointed.”
The students will be presenting their projects to judges between 4-5 p.m. This is a state recognized event and qualifying students may be able to attend nationals in early July in San Diego, Calif., along with being awarded possible scholarships for their work.
ProStart is a career technical student organization that enables students to learn basic culinary skills while earning dual credit through Ivy Tech, as well as the National Restaurant Association and ServSafe food safety certification. While enrolled in the two year program, these same students actively manage the Blue Apron restaurant in the Warsaw Area Career Center.
The students will showcase their talents through a knife skills and chicken fabrication presentation followed by recreating a three course meal under the guide of local restaurateurs. This also, like the FCCLA conference, is a statewide event held annually with the opportunity to advance to the national level.
“We appreciate your continuous support of Warsaw Area Career Center and we would like to encourage you to attend this event so you can be actively involved with what all of the Warsaw community students are doing.” said Dena Lancaster, FCCLA advisor.
FCCLA will have their showcasing from 5-6 p.m. and the ProStart competition will begin at 5:30 p.m. The event will conclude at 7 p.m. with awards and refreshments prepared by the culinary students.
