Wawasee FFA Competes In Leadership Contest
SYRACUSE — Wawasee High School participated in the District II FFA Leadership Contest Wednesday, March 16, at Argos High School. More than 200 FFA members participated in events such as public speaking, quiz bowl, demonstrations and interviews.
From Wawasee, Clara Hardy, Emily Sabin, Madelyn Zimmerman, Elizabeth Zorn and Kayla and Leeann Estrada competed in the leadership contest. Austin Beer was not able to attend the contest, but was able to submit a proficiency application.
The Estradas placed second with their horticulture demonstration about plant propagation. Zimmerman demonstrated artificial insemination in cattle and received second place in the novice animal science category. She also memorized, recited and responded to impromptu questions about the FFA creed and placed fourth. In the senior animal science demonstration category, Zorn placed second with her demonstration regarding the purpose and proper procedure for docking tails in sheep.
Awards were also given for students supervised agriculture experience (internship/entrepreneur) proficiency applications. Zorn and Beer placed first with their applications in poultry and swine production. Beer also received the District Star Farmer award.
