Battery Charges Filed Against Contresas
WARSAW — Officers have arrested a Warsaw resident who allegedly battered his wife in the presence of the couple’s two children.
Officers with the Warsaw City Police Department received a call Monday, March 28, that a battery had taken place. According to a court affidavit, the victim told police her husband, Martin Bustamante-Contresas, had dropped their children off at her home and left. He later called and they began arguing about financial issues.
The victim told officers Bustamante-Contresas returned to her door and they again began to argue. She said when she attempted to close the door, Bustamante-Contresas blocked it open with his foot and that when she picked up the phone to call police, he threw the phone to the ground.
She then followed Bustamante-Contresas to his vehicle and he stuck out his arm, hitting her in the throat. That is when she said she told one of the children to call the police.
The affidavit states that after pushing the victim’s shoulders, Bustamante-contresas gave her back her phone and she started to walk away, but he tackled her from behind and again tried to grab the phone. She ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911.
The victim complained of pain to her neck and left knee and told police the two children had been watching the scene unfold. She also told officers she had filed for divorce and she and Bustamante-Contresas are no longer living together. Officers spoke with one of the children, who said Bustamante-Contresas had pushed the victim.
Officers arrested Bustamante-Contresas and booked him in the Kosciusko County Jail, with bond set at $5,000 surety and $250 cash.
