Keep Kids Active And Trying New Things This Summer At The Y
WARSAW — As a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y works to help children and teens discover their full potential by providing opportunities to learn and grow. The Kosciusko Community YMCA is encouraging parents to keep their kids physically active and mentally engaged by signing them up for one or several of the YMCA’s eight sports camps or the YMCA’s day camp, Camp Little Eagle.
This year at the Kosciusko Community YMCA, specialty camps include camps for ages ranging from 3 to 17, focused on gymnastics, fitness, basketball, sports, golf and swimming. This is a great opportunity for children to try something new without committing to a full session or season of a sport.
To start off the summer Youth Gymnastics Camp for ages 6 and up from 1-3:30 p.m. June 13-16, will use gymnastics as a foundation in developing strength, flexibility and coordination. Gymnasts will work with the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor.
Preschool Gymnastics Camp for ages 3-5 will build self-confidence and motor skills in a safe environment from 9 -10 a.m. June 14-16.
Children, ages 3 to 5, will find exercise fun and exciting as they move through fun activities in Preschool Fitness Camp, from 10:30-11 a.m. June 20-23.
Golf Camp will be offered in partnership with Denny Hepler of Raccoon Run from 9-11 a.m. July 6-8, and includes three days of instruction and drills, chipping, putting and the full swing. The time will end with a Golf Camp Tournament.
For ages 5-8 and 9-12, Volleyball Camp will be offered July 11-14, where they’ll learn the basics of the sport. The younger kids will meet 10:30 a.m.-noon and the older kids 1-3 p.m.
The Kosciusko Community YMCA will also be a host site for an official Pacers summer basketball camp through the National Basketball Academy.
These camps include expert instruction including drills, practice stations and skills contests for both boys and girls ages 5-17. Register for this camp at www.pacerscamps.com. Soccer Camp will be offered for two different age groups: ages 5-8 at 10:30 a.m.-noon and ages 9-12 at 1-3 p.m., July 25-28.
Participants will work on developing their passing, dribbling, and shooting, while having fun learning the most popular worldwide sport. All skill levels are welcome.
The Sharks Swim Team Camp, for those already familiar with all four competitive strokes, is 1-3 p.m. Aug. 1-5. Swimmers will grow in technique and strength under the instruction of YMCA Swim Team Coaches.
Camp Little Eagle YMCA Summer Day Camp will also run 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, throughout the summer. Camp Little Eagle provides a safe environment in which campers can learn and be active with everything from swim lessons, group games and field trips to reading time, crafts and Bible lessons.
