Triton Sports Wrap: April 18
Tennis Zips The Zebras
Triton won its third dual of the season on the tennis courts, besting Rochester 4-1 in Bourbon.
Triton’s four wins all were straight sets, as was its lone loss. Shayla May topped Zoe Bixler four and three at one singles and Kolbie Mason topped Allie Bickle love and four at two singles.
Both Triton doubles teams came out on top, with Emma Ross and Hannah Wanemacher taking care of Arrianah Jacobs and Rosalie Navarro 6-2, 7-5, and Tatum Thompson and Megan McFarland beating Abbie McCarter and Mariah Yochum one and three.
Emma Barontini of Rochester had the lone Zebra win, topping Quinn Downing four and three at three singles.
Rochester went 4-1 in JV courts against Triton.
Triton moves to 3-0 on the season, Rochester 1-1. The Trojans play again Tuesday at home against Whitko.
Knox Rallies To Derail Triton Softball
Triton’s entry into the Hoosier North Athletic Conference softball season had a rough start Monday. A five-run sixth and another run in the seventh gave Knox a surprising 13-9 win at Keyser Field.
Knox’s rally in the sixth, where the Redskins trailed 9-7, was a benefit in part to three Triton errors. The Trojans committed seven errors overall, but none bigger than the sixth inning miscues, which allowed all five runs to come home unearned.
The Redskins were led by McKenzie Morgan’s four hits, packaging a double and run. Leslie Kroft did a bulk of the damage, hitting a double, homer, driving in three and scoring three runs.
Triton had Hannah Woodard double, drive in two and score a run among her three-hit day. Courtney Jennings and Nicole Sechrist each had two RBIs, and Taytum Hargrave had two hits, stole two bases and scored twice.
Triton falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the HNAC with a date against a solid Manchester club up next at Keyser on Thursday.
Golfers Continue To Excel
Triton added two more dual wins to its résumé Monday, posting a 180 to beat Mishawaka’s 199 and John Glenn’s 206 at Eberhart in Mishawaka.
Isaac Wall and Bryce Swihart took honors for the Trojans with 44s, with Greg Music one shot back at 45 and Jordan Anderson and Beau Hepler both settling at 47.
Triton’s 195 was well ahead of Mishawaka and Glenn in the JV match. Spencer Johnson and Chase Butler each shot 48 to lead the Trojans.
Triton will golf in a four-way at Plymouth with the Pilgrims, CMA and South Bend Washington.
