Dustin R. Miller
Dustin R. Miller, 31, of Winona Lake, Ind., passed away at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, in his home after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
He was born March 27, 1981, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Kent and Patty (Jones) Miller.
Dustin was recognized with honor chords as he graduated from Warsaw Community High School with the class of 1999. He played trumpet in the band, was a member of the National Honors Society, and served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear machinist mate during Iraqi Freedom. He was a furnace operator with Zimmer Inc.
He married Jenifer Augustine on June 2, 2002, in Silver Lake, Ind.
He was a member of Silver Lake Wesleyan Church, enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an avid fan of the Colts and the Michigan Wolverines, a fan of the New York Yankees and was able to visit the new and the old stadiums. He had a special way with kids and loved spending time with his children. His family called him fun and funny, proud of and devoted to his family and he loved Jenifer very much and had a way brightening her day. He was the one who made sure everyone pulled together and stayed together; Dustin would call Nick at 1:45 in the afternoon (almost to the minute), just to check in. He was a great roll model, disciplined, intelligent, and was a great man of faith – especially for his age.
He is survived by his wife: Jenifer Miller, Winona Lake; a daughter: Abigail Miller; and a son: Nathan Miller, both at home; his parents: Kent and Patty Miller, Warsaw, Ind.; four brothers: Brian (Becky) Miller, Warsaw; Nick Miller, Warsaw; Alex (Jennifer) Calhoun, Warsaw; and Joshua Miller, Warsaw; a sister: Andrea Calhoun, Warsaw; his paternal grandmother: Sherry Amudson, Huntington, Ind.; paternal grandfather: Ron Miller, Claypool, Ind.; maternal grandparents: Larry and Eliza Jones, Syracuse, Ind.; a brother-in-Law: Adam (Elizabeth) Augustine, Warsaw; and his mother-in-Law: Lou Augustine, Warsaw.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at the funeral home with Rev. Barry Faucet, retired pastor with the Wesleyan Church. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 258, Pierceton, Ind.
