TinCaps Shut Out Chiefs [VIDEO]
FORT WAYNE – Before the first sell-out crowd at Parkview Field in 2016, Carlos Belen’s first-inning RBI groundout held up for the TinCaps during a 1-0 win over the Peoria Chiefs thanks to stellar pitching Wednesday afternoon.
One night after a furious comeback and extra-innings victory, Fort Wayne (11-9) snatched a quick lead and never relinquished it with 7,004 fans on hand.
Rod Boykin drew a leadoff walk, headed to second after Michael Gettys took four straight balls and advanced to third on a Jake Woodford (L, 0-3) wild pitch. Belen then grounded out, bringing in Boykin.
Jacob Nix and Enyel De Los Santos (W, 1-1) handled the rest.
Making his fourth start of the season, Nix tossed four innings of two-hit ball. He struck out four batters before giving way to De Los Santos, who finished off Peoria (8-11) with five scoreless frames, tallying four punchouts and allowing just two hits.
The TinCaps will attempt to complete the three-game sweep Thursday night.
