Former Manchester University Student Arrested In Infant Death
ELKHART — Police have arrested a 21-year-old former Manchester University student after the infant she gave birth to in her dorm room died.
Around 12:45 p.m. Monday, May 3, police arrested Mikayla Munn, 21, of Elkhart, on murder and neglect of a dependent causing death charges.
She was arrested at her Elkhart home and taken to the Wabash County Jail.
Police said on March 8. just before midnight, North Manchester dispatchers received a call from Munn.
When they arrived, they found her in her Manchester University dorm room.
Munn had given birth in the bath tub, and the infant wasn’t breathing.
Both Munn and the infant boy were taken to a local hospital.
The infant boy was pronounced dead at the hospital, and after Munn was treated for the after effects of child birth, she was released.
Police said due to inconsistent information, detectives and Indiana State Police launched an investigation.
Detectives developed enough probable cause for an arrest warrant to be issued.
Munn was arrested on murder charges and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
The Wabash County Prosecutor’s Office and safety officers from Manchester University assisted in the investigation.
Officials with Manchester University say Munn withdrew from the university and was not a student at the time of her arrest.
