Offense The Ticket In TinCaps Win
EASTLAKE, Ohio – The TinCaps thumped the Lake County Captains, 9-3, on Sunday afternoon at Classic Park. Fort Wayne had a 13-hit offensive attack that included a pair of home runs.
Fort Wayne (26-24) first baseman Ty France started the scoring with a solo home run to lead off the second against left-hander Sam Hentges (L, 1-4). For the 21-year-old France, it was his third blast of the season, and his first of four hits and four RBIs on the day.
Left fielder Kodie Tidwell extended the TinCaps’ lead to 2-0 in the third inning with a triple that scored right fielder Jhonatan Peña. Tidwell also extended his hitting streak to a career-long nine games, while Peña finished with his second three-hit game of the season. A France RBI single made it 3-0 and a passed ball brought in second baseman Tyler Moore, who had walked after Tidwell’s triple. Still in the third, third baseman Carlos Belen contributed a run-scoring single to swell the lead to 5-0.
In the fourth, Tidwell tagged his first homer as a TinCap — a two-run shot with Peña on first — to balloon the advantage to 7-0. Not done yet, France added a two-run single to bring home Moore, who was on after a walk, and center fielder Michael Gettys, who had singled. Gettys stretched his on-base streak to 13 games.
Lake County (28-22) futilely scored twice in the home fourth and put up one for naught in the ninth.
TinCaps starter Enyel De Los Santos (W, 3-1) struck out four over across five innings. Nick Monroe tossed two scoreless frames of relief. Gerardo Reyes finished the final two innings.
Hentges was yanked with one out in the fourth and charged with all of the Fort Wayne runs.
The TinCaps are 3-3 on their week-long road trip which ends Monday. Fort Wayne has taken two of the first three in this series.
Next Game for Fort Wayne is Monday, May 30, at Lake County, a 1 p.m. first pitch.
