Win Streak Snapped In Dayton Opener
DAYTON, Ohio – The Dayton Dragons exploded for five first-inning runs and cruised to an 11-1 win over the TinCaps on Friday night at Fifth Third Field.
Dayton (16-45) added two runs in the third and four in the sixth to top the TinCaps (34-27), who had won five in a row and eight of their last nine entering the three-game weekend series.
The TinCaps tallied a run in the top of the third when third baseman Carlos Belen vaulted a sacrifice fly to right field to plate second baseman Peter Van Gansen, who had worked a one-out walk.
Center fielder Michael Gettys (2-for-4) and shortstop Ruddy Giron (2-for-4) notched multi-hit efforts.
TinCaps starter Jacob Nix (L, 0-3) allowed seven runs (five earned) in three innings. Dragons starter Ty Boyles allowed just the one run in six sharp frames.
Fort Wayne corner infielder Ty France, who was not in the lineup, pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning and a scoreless ninth.
