Death Of 18-Year-Old Investigated
Kosciusko County officials are investigating the death of an 18-year-old male who was discovered by his mother today at their Cromwell home.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Syracuse EMS and fire personnel, were called at about 12:07 p.m. today to 9672 E. Excalibur Place. Shawn Michael Leins, 18, was found unconscious by his mother.
Syracuse EMS and fire emergency responders arrived and attempted to resuscitate Leins, but he was subsequently pronounced dead by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
Leins’ mother said she went to wake her son and discovered him unconscious and not breathing. Kosciusko County Central Communication dispatchers also provided CPR instruction over the 9-1-1 line as the woman attempted to resuscitate her son until emergency personnel could arrive.
The coroner’s office, along with KCSD officials, are investigating the incident but are awaiting completed toxicology results, as well as the findings of an autopsy, before making a determination as to the cause of death.
KCSD Detective/Lt. Todd Sautter said there is no reason at this time to suspect foul play. Kosciusko County Deputy Coroner Michael Wilson added it may be next week before conclusive results from the autopsy and lab toxicology are made available to their office.
