Events for the July 1, First Friday will be moved from downtown to East Market Street for a Stellar Community Celebration event. The evening will include demonstrations of projects, which are a part of the Stellar proposal. Market Street, between Park Avenue and the alley west of Wood Street, along with Tamarack Street and two side alleys will be closed from 2 to 10 p.m.

WARSAW — July’s First Friday location will be moved, following approval by Warsaw Board of Works today Friday, June 17. Normally held at Center and Buffalo streets, downtown Warsaw, the event will be moved to East Market Street, between Park Avenue and the alley west of Wood Street July 1.

Tim Dombrosky, assistant city planner, presented the request to close this portion and the adjoining streets at Friday’s meeting. Dombrosky stated the July 1 First Friday will be a Stellar Community Celebration.

Plans are to have demonstration projects available for the community to see, including projects by the parks and recreation department and transportation. “This is the relevant area for the projects,” he stated.

The street will be closed from 2 to 10 p.m. The First Friday event will be from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Fribley Field area, between Dollar General and Trinity United Methodist Church.

During other business. in the brief 20-minute meeting, a bid for repaving a portion of Main Street was opened and taken under advisement. Phend and Brown Inc., Milford, was the lone bidder. The bid of $323,915 includes milling of of East Main Street, spreading and compacting recycled material, installing a new surface and installation of various pavement traffic markings.

In another street related matter, Jeff Beeler, street superintendent, was given approval to have Rejuvtec Inc., Indianapolis, furnish and apply Reclamite Preservation Seal to various streets, the police department pavement and pavement at the cemetery. Beeler stated Rejuvtec is the only provider for the product. The total cost is $113,062.56.

Beeler explained to George Clemens and Jeff Grose, board members, he plans to use wheel tax funds for the Main Street project, receiving 50 percent back according to new guidelines, and pay for this project out of the street department’s motor vehicle highway funds. He stated use of wheel tax funds in this manner was confirmed with Indiana Department of Transportation yesterday.

Grose commended Beeler’s effort and those of other departments to “capture, recover dollars.” He added “this is another example of making good use of tax dollars.”

Other business

During other business approval was given for:

• Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church to close the alley directly to the west of the church for the SpringHill Day Camp between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, June 20, through Friday, June 24.
• Donation of $3,500 to Winona Lake-Warsaw Independence Day Celebration Inc., for fireworks July 2, on Winona Lake.
• The purchase of a right of way from Martin’s Super Markets Inc., in the amount of $10,750 for the Husky Trail Project. The funds will come from the eastern tax increment financing district.
• Payment to American Structurepoint Inc., Indianapolis, in the amount of $31,025 for engineering services for the Buffalo Street redevelopment project. Payment will be from the project bond funds.
• Accepted the deeding of a small portion of land at Menard’s as city right of way, overlooked when the property was developed.
