Hickman Faces Drug Charges
WARSAW — Ben Isaiah Hickman, 21, 3433 Chelmsford Place, Fort Wayne, is charged with possession of a narcotic drug, a level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor and a class C misdemeanor of possession of paraphernalia.
On Saturday, June 11, Warsaw City Police Officer Gordon Allen and Capt. Joel Beam made contact with Hickman during a DUI checkpoint. Allen reported Hickman appeared to be very nervous. He did a computer check and found out Hickman did not have a valid driver’s license.
As Hickman exited the vehicle, a plastic bag filled with a white powder was observed on the vacated driver’s seat. The white powder tested positive for cocaine.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, during a search of the vehicle another plastic bag, which tested positive for cocaine, was found. The officers observed a Styrofoam case inside the vehicle, which contained a large, glass smoking device that emitted an odor of burnt marijuana.
In the glove box of the vehicle another glass smoking device was found and a plastic bag of marijuana. Hickman admitted to officers that he had used cocaine earlier that evening.
Hickman is being held on bond of $5,250 surety and cash.
