Bicentennial Committee Seeking Volunteers
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — As Indiana nears its 200th “birthday,” the Kosciusko County Bicentennial Committee is asking local residents to consider volunteering at a festival booth or the day of the Bicentennial Torch Relay, set for Thursday, Sept. 29.
Groups, families, individuals, service clubs, organizations, businesses and anyone interested in helping facilitate Kosciusko County’s celebration of Indiana’s bicentennial is invited to sign up.
The committee has already handed out information at several area events like Mentone’s Egg Festival, Silver Lake Days and Warsaw’s First Fridays. They will also be at the North Webster Mermaid Festival this week. To make it convenient for volunteers, committee members noted volunteers can sign up to help out at festivals in their own hometowns; however, this is not a requirement and volunteers can come from anywhere in Kosciusko County.
Volunteers can also help out the day the torch relay comes through Kosciusko County in September. Workers are needed at the various exchange points, where the torch will be passed from one bearer to the next. Volunteers at these locations will oversee the passing of the torch and perform other tasks to keep the relay moving smoothly.
Besides relay-day activities, volunteers can help out with the celebratory events that will take place at the Kosciusko County fairgrounds Saturday, Oct. 1.
