Moore, Plumlee Among Several To Ink NBA Deals
NEW YORK, NY — The National Basketball Association held its annual draft this past Thursday. While just two local players of interest was drafted, Notre Dame’s Demetrius Jackson and Purdue’s AJ Hammons, the post-draft wake of summer roster signings took place over the weekend. Several players of local interest were included in this wave of signings, the most notable of these being former Warsaw standout, Nic Moore.
Moore, who finished his collegiate career at SMU this past spring, signed with the Miami Heat over the weekend and will compete on the team’s Summer League roster this July.
Another former Warsaw hoopster caught on with an NBA squad after the draft in Marshall Plumlee. The former Duke star will play this summer with the New York Knicks. Plumlee is the third brother from the family to move to the NBA, joining Miles (Milwaukee Bucks) and Mason (Portland Trailblazers).
Area college stars also inked deals over the weekend, including Indiana’s Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell. Ferrell signed a partially guaranteed deal with the Brooklyn Nets while former teammate Troy Williams inked with the Phoenix Suns.
Zach Auguste, a standout for Notre Dame over the past few seasons, signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Evansville Purple Aces had a huge year that took them to the National Invitational Tournament in March. That great season was thanks, in part, to the efforts of center Egidijus Mockevicius. The Lithuanian product signed a deal with the Nets over the weekend to keep his Association dream alive.
