Dragons Hold On For Win [VIDEO]
FORT WAYNE – The TinCaps mounted another late comeback bid but fell to the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds), 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Parkview Field.
Hours after the TinCaps (4-3 second half, 40-37 overall) came from behind to walk off on the Dragons (2-5, 23-54) Tuesday night, Fort Wayne nearly overcame a 2-0 deficit in the third meeting of the four-game set.
Dayton grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second and stretched it to 2-0 in the sixth.
In the seventh, however, TinCaps third baseman Carlos Belen rocketed a triple off the wall in left-center field and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by left fielder Jhonatan Peña to trim the deficit to 2-1.
The TinCaps then placed runners at the corners in the ninth thanks to a walk and a Dayton error, but Dragons reliever Manuel Aybar (S, 2) buttoned up the victory.
Dragons starter Austin Orewiler (W, 2-6) tossed six shutout innings, keeping pace with TinCaps starter Jerry Keel (L, 4-7), who only allowed one earned run in a career-best six innings with five strikeouts.
Final game of the homestand between the two teams is Thursday, June 30 with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
