Olympics At Mason’s Health and Rehabilitation Center
WARSAW — Residents at Mason’s Health and Rehabilitation Center began their first day of the three days of trials for various events for the TLC Management’s Summer Rehab Olympic Events.
Mayor Joseph Thallemer joined the olympic hopefuls today offering words of encouragement for residents trying to secure a spot in the TLC Management’s Summer Rehab Olympic Events. “Get your sleep and rest tonight,” Thallemer advised.
Trials were kicked off with a soccer game. Residents were able to participate standing up or from their wheel chairs as they played a soccer game that sensed when residents moved their feet.
Resident LuAnn Goering stated she was most excited about the 50-yard-dash event, “I’ve been practicing,” Goering said. This event will be outside, senior citizens can choose to walk or use their wheelchairs in the event. Another resident, Karen Miller is prepared to compete in the 50-yard-dash as well, “I’ve been walking up and down the halls,” Miller said.
The TLC Management Summer Rehab Olympic Event is for senior citizens across Indiana. Each of TLC’s 16 facilities in Indiana encourages their residents to compete in events. Senior athletes train locally and will gather for medals at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind. on July 21.
