ELKHART — Pilots come in all shapes and sizes and it turns out, so do their planes.

Mayor Tim Neese kicked off the fourth annual ‘Air Supremacy over Elkhart’ Thursday morning, July 7.

Pilots from across the Midwest will fill the skies at the Elkhart municipal airport with radio -controlled aircraft.

Creating and flying these planes is truly a labor of love.

Robert Monroe, Co-Founder of ‘Air Supremacy over Elkhart’ says, “Why else would you do it? There’s no real cost justification for it. You do it because you like it and I know I spent a lot of time in my shop and my wife is grateful that my shop is not another woman.”

Planes fly from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through July 9.

And for the first time, you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to fly an RC aircraft.

It costs $3 to get in. Admission is free for veterans, current military members, and kids under twelve.
