The 12U baseball team from Mentone and the 10U baseball team from New Paris each claimed semi-state titles in the latest rounds of the Town & Country tournaments.

Mentone won its tournament in Rochester, going 4-0 and closing out the 12U bracket by knocking off Bremen, 4-0, in the championship game. Mentone had beaten Bremen for its third win, with Bremen rebounding with a win against Caston in the loser’s bracket to emerge for the final.

Both Mentone and Bremen, along with Caston and Star City all make the state tournament at Flora.

New Paris also rolled through its tournament undefeated, going 5-0 with a 5-4 championship over Whitko in Monday night’s final at North Miami. New Paris sent Whitko to the loser’s bracket in the second round, but the boys from South Whitley won three in a row to get back to the final. Mentone went 2-2, losing to NorthWood in the knock-out round.

New Paris, Whitko, Rochester and NorthWood all advance to the state finals next week at Frankton.

Rochester won the 8U baseball tournament at Monticello, beating North Miami in the final. Both teams, along with Pioneer and Plymouth will make the state finals at Mentone. Mentone went 1-2 in the tourney.

In the Town & Country softball state series, the 10U tourney at North Miami saw the hosts beat West Central for the championship. Mentone came in third with a 3-2 weekend showing, losing to West Central to bow out.

In the 12U tourney at New Paris, Pioneer defeated the host New Paris team for the championship. New Paris lost in its first game of the tourney, then had to win four games to get back to the final, to which the undefeated Pioneer team sealed the deal. Mentone went 1-2 in the tournament.

In the 14U tourney at Rochester, Lewis Cass emerged from its pool as the top seed and knocked off fellow pool member Otterbein in the championship game. Otterbein was the second team from the B pool, to which Lewis Cass was tops. Otterbein beat A pool leader Winamac in the semi-finals. Whitko lost both of its games in the tournament.
