Bowen Center Obtains Comstock House
For 14 years, Warsaw Community Development Corporation has been the caretaker of a property in the downtown area of Warsaw that provides safe affordable housing. This property, affectionately known as the Comstock House, has provided a needed service for low-income families and was subsidized through a government loan facilitated by Lake City Bank.
After the Warsaw Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce President Mark Dobson was hired as the Executive Director of WCDC in May 2012, the mission of WCDC was re-evaluated. It was decided to strategically focus efforts on the mission of developing the downtown area to encourage new business and economic management critical to the downtown’s future.
Bowen Center expressed an interest in obtaining the Comstock House since the provision of affordable housing fit the mission of Bowen Center. Since Bowen Center currently operates 10 affordable housing facilities across three counties, and has experience managing affordable housing, the transfer of property was an easy one.
Bowen Center has a history of maintaining its properties to a high standard through their maintenance department and use of contractors. They will continue to use the Comstock House for the intended purpose of affordable housing within the community.
Thanks to the efforts of Lake City Bank, Otis R. Bowen Center for Human Services Inc., and Warsaw Community Development Corporation, the Comstock House will continue to provide a much needed service to the community.
