Dragons Shut Out TinCaps
DAYTON, Ohio – The Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) downed the TinCaps, 6-0, on a wet Monday night at Fifth Third Field. The start of the game was delayed 1 hour and 4 minutes by rain.
Once the teams were able to take the field, it was pretty much all Dragons (17-33, 38-82). Dayton scored two runs in the first, added one in the second, and then came up with two decisive runs in the sixth, plus another in the eighth on a wild pitch. The Dragons’ first five runs — charged against Fort Wayne starter Thomas Dorminy (L, 3-4) — all came on two-out hits.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne (20-30, 56-64) struck out 14 times at the plate. Dayton starter Austin Orewiler (W, 3-11) racked up 9 Ks in five innings. The TinCaps had some chances, but went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base.
Shortstop Ruddy Giron provided something of a spark for the visitors with a pair of doubles. Since July 18, Giron has 13 doubles, which are four more than anyone else in the Midwest League has in that window.
If the rain holds off, the two teams will play Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
