Ruby June Battles Geyer
Ruby June Battles Geyer, 94, Lakeville, passed away at 7:23 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, in Hospice House of South Bend. She was born on June 12, 1922, to Millard and Cora (Klinkner) Battles. On March 16, 1946, she married Dale Geyer. He preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2009.
She was a 1940 graduate of Madison Township High School, where she was active in 4-H and a state GAA award winner in Athletics. Ruby’s days as a farmer’s wife were filled with hard work and special caring for her children and grandchildren as well as helping work the family farm. She also worked as a cook for the Union-North School Corp. and Ristance Wire in Bremen. In the early 60’s, when school reorganization was taking place, she was asked by the trustee to be part of his committee. Ruby was an excellent cook, baker and canner and enjoyed her fruits with family and friends, then on Sunday morning you would always find her in church with the children.
She is survived by her three children: Beverly (Larry) Hough, Lakeville; Larry (Jane) Geyer, Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and Craig (Rebecca) Geyer, Bremen; five grandchildren: Stephanie (Jeremy) Kuskye, South Bend; Jennifer (David) Dunn, Charlestown; Clay and Michael Geyer, Bremen; Kelly (Sarah) Geyer, Simpsonville, S.C.; and seven great-grandchildren: Noah; and Mikalah Kuskye; Ruby; Addison; and Brody Dunn; Emily; and Olivia Geyer. She is also survived by one brother: Millard (Martha) Battles, Auburn, Wash. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and five sisters: Helen Schlarb; Jeanette Martin; Erma Crowel; Virginia Beehler; and Evelyn Young.
The family would like to thank the outstanding help and care of the Center for Hospice, especially the Plymouth staff, and the Visiting Angel’s of Nappanee. You made life so much easier.
