Triton Sports Wrap: Sept. 3
Boys Tennis
Triton ran into a buzzsaw Saturday at Bethany Christian, losing 5-0 to the Bruins.
Bethany’s one and two singles were dominant, with Byeong Min Lim dropping Mace Eads 6-1, 6-0, and Jonathon Yousey trumping Aaron Stichter 6-0, 6-1. At three singles, Daniel Robles lost the first set to Carter Kuntz 6-3, but rallied 6-2, 6-2 to take the court.
At one doubles, Simon Hurst and Brandon Nguyen beat Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler 6-0, 6-3. At two doubles, Lane Miller and Dustin Miller finished strong, winning 6-3, 6-0 over Grant Eib and Tyler Heckaman.
Bethany won all five of the JV courts.
Triton (4-5) will play again Wednesday at home against South Bend Riley.
Volleyball
A competitive Hoosier North Athletic Conference match in Francisville had Triton outlast West Central 3-1.
Triton won the first game 27-25 and game two 25-18, only for the hosts to take game three 25-19, and Triton closing out matters 25-21 in game four.
Triton had a big day at the net, with Charlotte Morris leading the way with 12 kills with Nicole Sechrist and Emma Ross with 11 kills each. Sechrist added five aces, Quinn Downing contributed 33 digs and three aces, Hannah Wanemacher had 33 assists and Courtney Jennings had two solo blocks and two assisted blocks.
Triton’s JV defeated West Central 25-22, 18-25, 15-13.
Triton (6-2, 3-1 HNAC) will visit North Judson Tuesday for another conference match.
Cross Country
Triton’s boys and girls teams competed in Saturday’s Caston Invite, the boys taking eighth overall and the girls sixth overall in the team standings.
Leading the way for the girls was Baylee McIntire, taking 24th overall at 22:49. Whytnie Miller (29, 23:24), Briana Wilhite (48, 24:14), Abigail Powell (51, 24:27) and Aimee Gladieux (58, 24:43) rounded out Triton’s top five.
Bailey Watkins led the boys team with a 21st place time of 18:48. Russell Reichard (22, 18:51), Josiah Page (46, 19:59), Shaun Honeycutt (58, 20:43) and Brock Watkins (73, 21:28) rounded out Triton’s top five.
Triton resumes action Tuesday when it hosts Culver Academy.
